Generally, the best time to look for tide pools is early summer mornings, late fall afternoons, and winter afternoons. This is when the lowest tides are. Animals Found in Tide Pools

Tide pools are home to snails, barnacles, mussels, anemones, urchins, sea stars, crustaceans, crabs, seaweed, and small fish. These are especially adaptable animals.

Tide Pool Etiquette

1. Watch your step. Walk slowly and carefully.
2. Wear sturdy shoes and avoid stepping on animals or seaweed.
3. Always be mindful of the tide and waves. The ocean is unforgiving. Be safe above all else.
4. Avoid picking up animals.
5. Don’t roll rocks. If one moves on its own, leave it.
6. If you see an animal trying to escape, let it go.
7. If you pick up an animal, return it to where you found it.
